Whiplash | Car Accident related injuries
The research says:
“Whiplash is a common neck injury that often occurs during rear-end automobile collisions. These extreme motions push your neck muscles and ligaments beyond their normal range of motion. People with whiplash injuries can develop chronic symptoms that become extremely painful and disabling."
-MayoClinic.com 2008
“Following a motor vehicle collision, 15% to 40% of patients with acute neck pain develop chronic neck pain.”
-Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, October, 2007
“Follow-up x-rays taken an average of 7 years after injury(whiplash) in one series of patients without prior x-ray evidence of disc disease(spinal degeneration) indicated that 39% had developed degenerative disc disease(spinal degeneration) at one or more disc levels since injury.”
There was an expected incidence of 6% degenerative change in the population over this period of time.
-The Cervical Spine Research Society. Lippincott, 1989
Dr. Schotzko says:
This is a very good example of how spinal misalignments will accelerate the
degeneration of your
spine. The above video shows that the amount of misalignment will determine the amount of
degeneration you have. Just as if the tires on your car were misaligned, they would wear out faster
and you would be replacing your tires much sooner than you'd like and it would eventually wear out
the front end of your car and require large amounts of money and time to fix. The exact same principle
applies to your spine. If it is misaligned, it will decay faster and could cause you major problems down
the road and unlike cars, you can't buy spare spine parts at Wal-Mart. You only get one spine, regular
check ups and care if needed will help to align your spine and slow down the degeneration that occurs
allowing you do do the things you enjoy to do.
